  • Why choose CareSource?

CareSource has been supporting independence through excellent care for more than 10 years.  We are an affiliate of the Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut, a local non-profit, community based organization with more than 100 years of history serving individuals of all ages and their families in Greater New Haven, Milford and the lower Naugatuck Valley.  CareSource is accredited by CHAP, the Community Health Accreditation Program, and has a professional Advisory Committee that oversees its clinical practices.

At the time of admission, a nurse manager comes to your home and develops a care plan with you.  The nurse manager orients the staff to your plan of care and performs routine supervisions.

  • Are services covered by long-term care insurance?

CareSource provides you with an itemized bill for you to submit to your carrier.

CareSource has worked with various insurance companies to meet their provider criteria.  Most long-term policies have a qualifying period, or a deductible and might pay a percentage of the cost for private duty services.  We can assist you in determining your coverage parameters and work with your insurer to complete applicable paperwork.

  • What is live in service, and what do I need to provide for the live in aide?

Live in service is 24 hours a day/7 days a week, and may be provided on an ongoing basis, or for standardized time periods (e.g. Monday-Friday) to allow family caregivers to work outside the home and assume weekend care.  Live in care can also be arranged as a respite service to relieve family caregivers once a month or for family vacations.

During the 24 hours live in day, it is expected that the caregiver will provide an average of 10 hours of intermittent care.  They will have 3 hours for mealtime, 3 hours of "free time" and approximately 8 hours of sleep.  Free time means time that the caregiver may be relaxing by watching TV, reading, writing letters, etc.  The live in aide is not allowed to leave the home during this time without consent from CareSource so that appropriate coverage can be arranged.  The live in aide sleep time is according to the client's schedule, and the live in aide is expected to respond to the client's needs intermittently.

The client needs to provide a place for the aide to sleep and meals.
